On June 23-27, 2008 Crocus Expo International exhibition centre hosted ROSUPAK, the largest packaging exhibition of Russia. It attracted 871 exhibitors from 33 countries. Total exhibition area accounted for 46,947 sq ì. Total number of visits of Russian and foreign experts were 25,751 during 5-days exhibition. “Ruskom IT Systems” LLC (in accordance with UFI audit regulations) hold statistical audit. It is the largest packaging exhibition in Russia, CIS and Eastern Europe.
After years of its activity ROSUPAK exhibition has been highly estimated by domestic and foreign professional organizations. ROSUPAK is marked with signs of RUEF (Russian union of exhibitions and fairs), UFI (The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry), COPE (the Confederation of the Organizers of packaging exhibitions), WPO (World Packaging Organization), PAC (Packaging Association of Canada), FEFCO (European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers), ULADE (Packaging Union of Latin America). The exhibition has achieved international status and attracts foreign and domestic companies of the highest level based on its organization and target audience.

Exhibitors and Exposition

Exhibition includes all the achievements of the world packing industry. Companies from Austria, Great Britain, the USA, Italy, Spain, India, Finland, France, Turkey, Estonia, Japan and other countries took part in the exhibition. ROSUPAK traditionally gathers leading companies of Russian packaging market and hundreds of foreign companies that are interested to work in Russia.
Russian and foreign companies will showcase top technologies and equipment, the variety of packaging materials and ready packaging, unique designer’s and constructor’s salvations and full range of packaging industry services. Annually this picturesque and diverse show demonstrates the development of the packaging industry both in Russia and abroad: it always attracts the manufacturers and consumers.
At FOODMASH-2008 exhibition AGRO-3 company presented brand-new packing equipment for Russian market. Produced by Italian firm Mondini with its flexibility, i.e. the ability to work with a various in form, mass and composition food and non-food products and to use different packing technologies. Lines can include devices for loading, metering, cutting, filling, transporting, packaging, packing, labeling products.
Lipsia JCS demonstrated the special conveyor system LIPSIA for solving the problems of freezing, refrigeration, accumulation, safe increase or setback of products. There were also presented conveyor systems Schuco Design with the belt of 65 mm, 90 mm, 200mm, 500 mm width. Specialists of the company showed visitors the possibilities of robotic loader which aim is packing of the product into correx, forming of the products stream on the conveyer belts, and product rejecting.
ALLTEX and Variovac companies demonstrated innovative patented type of deep-drawing packaging: Multilayer Package for sliced products with the long storage period. MLP – is a package consisting of several layers of products separated from each other by film. Products can be absolutely different (e.g. cheese and sausage). Thanks to the concept the consumer unpacks only one layer and the others remain hermetic and fresh.
On the booth of Standard Plus LTD. guests of the exhibition had a chance to see the gadget of the company – a single-roll packaging machine. It allows making packages for polyethylene containers without weld with two layers of the film on the packing bottom and secures high productivity. Today this machine has no analogues in Russia.
FRUCTONAD GROUP presented the pressure MONOBLOCK SRT 30/44/6sf for rinse, filling and sealing. Monoblock is intended for filling both sparkling and still wines into bottles. The company also has started the volume production of high palletizers (automatic packaging machines for a vast range of packages and bags). The palletizer of the “FRUCTONADE GROUP” constructors satisfies almost all the demands of consumers. On the booth one was able to see the information about the complex lines and turnkey juice, wine, and cognac and vodka factories.
At ROSUPAK’2008 FESTO company introduced electric gear and pneumatic means for automatization of devices for food and packing industries and the sensation of 2008 pneumatic cylinder- dosator ñfor liquid products. At the company’s stand pneumatic motor race imitator made on the basis of Festo pneumatic products. It demonstrated wide implementation of pneumatic muscles and Festo servo pneumatic elements. Racer seat was moving in 6 coordinates that made this motor race exactly real!
Mondi Coating & Release company demonstrated efficient items of packing and storing industrial for food and non-food industries às well as covering film for producing stick labels.
Petromash-Service demonstrated the Planet-1226 high-speed computerized complete package line for production of corrugated packaging and the Evolution self-leveling and strapping machine (Emmepi, Italy). The machines are line mounted and complete the technological process of corrugated boxes production: from delivery of a corrugated board to a formed, leveled and strapped pack of a ready product.
Attendees were able to watch and evaluate the equipment at work. The above-mentioned innovative equipment and materials were only a smaller part of the exhibits demonstrated at the show. All of them serve to preserve the quality and attractive layout of various products.

Business Program
The key event of the show was the STRATEGIC CHALLENGIES FOR THE RUSSIAN PACKAGING MARKET international conference held on June 24-25. The unique was the fact that the forum harmonically combined the themes of Production, Selling and Marketing in the packaging industry.

Forum united over 200 top officials and managers of consuming companies and packing producers from Russia, Moldova, Poland, Netherlands, Turkey, Japan, Finland, Germany, France, Ukraine and Belarus.
Forum studied concrete and practical questions: business efficiency, government control and taxes, regulations and certifications, innovations and industrial researches, branding and advancement. Packing industry experts, consumers and producers of package made their reports. In two-day forum six complete sessions were held, round table meeting with strategic partners and forty reports.
President of MVK International Exhibition Company Andrey Lapshin and Chairman of the board of “Imperia Company” Viktor Andreev greeted Forum exhibitors.
Vladimir A. CHUIKOV, Chairman of the Board of Directors of GOTEK Group, President of ROSUPAK Exhibition opened “Strategic challenges to Russian package market. Direct dialogue with government” first plenary session.
Evgeny Maev, Candidate of Science, Federal Agency of technical regulation and metrology Department Director reported on the relevant subject “Rules and certification in production and use of raw materials applied in package production”. Vladimir Kulakov, General Director of government company Upackservice went on with this subject suggesting the project of developing national unification in packing and packaging materials. Alexander Boyko, executive director of the National Packaging Confederation introduced to the delegates federal program of development of Russian packaging industry till 2015 year. Then Andrey Zagorski, Doctor of Economics, President and Head of the board of Ekotek Group of Companies, Member of the board of World Packaging Organization (WPO), described the conception of efficient package: tasks and chances.
Stanislaw Tkachyk, President of Polish Chamber for tare and packaging and Director of Polish Packaging Research and Development Centre (COBRO) spoke about rising export concurrency of food products with help of package. Dogan Erberk, Secretary General of Packaging Manufacturers Association from Turkey made a report about the world packaging industry trends and the industry up-to-dates in Turkey. This report closed the first session.
After short break delegates attention rested upon special guest pf the Forum Igor Kachalov, President of Kachalov and Collegues Agency, author of the book “Planning sales with over 90% reliability”. An hour speech «How to get 120% profit at the corporate market: Secrets of b2b Marketing or how to increase business efficiency” arose plenty of questions which eventually resulted in an unplanned round table discussion. In the zone of free discussion participants divided in those who stayed in the hall and those who took an active parting discussing question of business efficiency with Igor Kachalov.
In the focus session “Packaging business: research, current situation, prognosis and trends” unique researches of packaging market were presented by the companies Step by Step, Infoiman, Research Institute of physical distribution and conjuncture of wholesale markets. The report included all four trends in packaging industry: polymers, glass, aluminum and corrugated fibre-board. Oleg Harin, General Director of Slavich Company and Vsevolod Abramov, Chairman of Council of Plastics Processors Union expressed the opinion of producers on the current situation and tendencies in the industry.
On the second day Nataliya Petrunya, chief master of programme decisions of automized systems in managing Vest company production opened focus-session “Efficient packaging decisions. Technological innovations” with her report “Optimization planning: complexity of the task and decision”.
Elizaveta Kudryashova, marketing department director of “Huhtamyaki C.I.S.” hinted that the secret of producing and boosting biodegradable package lies in the innovations in Russian market.
Speakers from Germany, Netherlands and Japan introduced their innovative technologies too. Jorgan Pomorin RC-silicon technical support specialist from Europe/Africa Evonik Industries (Germany) came out with economic perspectives of using UF silicon for anti-adhesive cover. Ikko Macui, NIPPON GOHSEI (Japan) technology manager reported on “Barrier material EVOH-SOARNOL in modern polymer package. Prolonging the date of product preservation”. Yani Vuorenpa, chief of two-base oriented nylon cover BIAXIS project from SOJITZ (Japan) in details described his project and new nylon based packing materials. General Director of Variopack company Jan Taraponov introduced his partners from Holland who told about innovations in Russian label market: label and general package stretch sleeve.
The next module devoted to marketing was led off by Pavel Dmitrakov, Chief Director of Hologreit-Pack, who reported on «Visually active materials in packing as the means of the goods’ communication”.
For the first time in the history of ROSUPAK gave the floor to Russian and European marketing and consulting experts Nicholas Coro (NEIMS Paris-Sydney-Moscow), Gregory Trusov (“Contact-Expert”) and Oleg Mackarov SAFI Consulting marketing director, author of the book “Way of trade” (pen name Tadao Yamaguchi).
Gregory Trusov’s report “Will come themselves, will buy themselves. Approach to creating the attractive image of goods” evoked applause and provocative questions which he brilliantly managed to answer. Nicholas Coro presented his “Emotional package as the demand of arebranded market. Methods and techniques of sensor market”. Delegates actively participated in the speaker’s experiment and were impressed by his emotional performance. Oleg Makarov with “Four sides of one package” brought the conference to conclusion. He discussed with delegates four views on package, from the package producer, goods producer who uses the package, retailer selling this goods, and the final consumer point of view- that is important for every type of consumer in packing. The second day of the forum resulted in adopting memorandum “Appeal to Russian Federation government on questions of developing Russian packaging industry”, where they expressed their suggestions on essential measures for the development of Russian packing industry.
Organizers are confident that Forum “Strategic challenges to Russian Package market” is to become annual and along with ROSUPAK exhibition will evolve into the major event of Russian package industry.
In the framework of the exhibition business program on 26 June there was a conference Ecodesign. World View and Concepts for Development organized by Packaging R&D journal and endorsed by MVK International Exhibition Company.
For the first time ever in framework of ROSUPAK International specialized Exhibition “Logistics and Warehousing 2008” was organized (Organizers: Mizunov Media Group and MVK International Exhibition Company). As part of this program on 24 June round table “Market of warehousing devices. Situation and perspectives” was held. On June 25 there a specialized conference: Managing the Supply Chains and Warehousing Technologies in Modern Business. The demo-show of handlers and warehousing machinery was held on June 24-26 at the outdoor area. Organizer: Mizunov Media Group endorsed by MVK.
Traditionally during ROSUPAK show National Packaging Confederation with MVK held Grand Star Russia 2008 national contest for the best packaging. 62 works were presented at the contest, 34 models won prizes. Exposition of competition works and contest catalogue were presented on a special booth.
For the first time at ROSUPAK’2008 a collective stand of territorial industrial trade chambers was organized by endorsed by Subcommittee of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry dealing with the packaging industry in Russia, National Packaging Confederation and MVK International Exhibition Company. The chambers showed achievements of their local region packaging industries.
Service
The International business-centre made the work of the exhibitors at the show even more comfortable. The guests of the centre were able to hold the negotiations, use computers and access the Internet there.
The Check Your Mail stands with constant Internet access allowed the exhibitors and visitors keep tracks of the events.
At the Information and Consulting Centre (ICS) the visitors got professional consultations on individual requests (search of certain products, etc.)

Nowadays national packaging business is forming and it’s obvious that ROSUPAK is the indicator of its development. Packaging market is one of the leading segments of Russian economy in growth-rate. According to the very modest prognosis the process of initial saturation of Russian market is going to last till 2012. Besides the way of making business is qualitatively changing: new management technologies are implemented, its transparency increases, new financial instruments are being used.
